As it turned out, BikerSOS, the app used to track my journey, does not work in Namibia.
Various attempts to contact the manufacturer were unsuccessful, so I suspected that this company had ceased operations.
Sometime after 4 weeks Katlen managed to get the managing director on the phone and he explained that some kind of difficulties with the mail server were the reason why no contact was possible. And finally, the tracker probably doesn't work in all countries. This was confirmed when I returned to South Africa weeks later: lo and behold, it resumed service.
In the meantime, however, I switched to another medium that works everywhere using GPS.
